The Hamilton Conservation Authority is advising residents about a possibility of flooding at Spencer Creek in the area of East Street, Dundas Street and Cootes Drive.
In a press release issued at 3 p.m., Monday, the HCA stated frazil ice had formed in the creek near the Thorpe Street bridge. There is a history of this underwater freezing forcing creek flows up and over the creek’s banks in this area.
This fact, along with high rainfall forecasts over the next few days and expected temperature increases causing snowpack melting prompted the flooding advisory for this area of Dundas.
“Roadway overtopping is possible in the area bounded by East St. / Dundas St. to the West, King St. E to the North, Cootes Drive to the South and East. Olympic Drive may also be affected. Residents are urged to use caution when traveling in these areas and obey all signage,” the HCA press release states.
