Sabres pick up three points

The Stoney Creek Junior Sabres came away with three points from a home-a nd-home series with the Markham Junior Stars. The Sabres are now 5-0-2 in the PWHL and 17-4-2 overall.

The Sabres will continue with their PWHL play, playing host

to the Toronto Junior Aeros tonight (Oct. 30) at 9 p. m. at Valley Park Arena.

The PWHL shuts down for a week for the Hockey Canada U18 National Championships to be held in Surrey, BC. Four Sabres earned a ticket to the U18s. Arielle O’Neill will be a member of Ontario Red, while Rylee Smith, Melanie Desrochers and Shelby Wignall will represent the Ontario Blue team.

Junior Sabres, 3-

Markham, 3 The Sabres scored first on a power-play midway through the first, when Dallas Boyd scored on a breakaway after Arielle O’Neill had put her in the clear. Melanie Desrochers picked up the second assist.

The Sabres gave up two goals before the end of the first to go down 2-1.

The Sabres controlled most of the second holding a 13-7 shot advantage, but went down two five minutes in and found themselves down 3-1 at the end of the second.

The Sabres came out hard in the third and tied the game, when O’Neill scored with a nice shot with Talia Paone and Emily Martz picking up the assists.

Kristen Barbara tied the game midway through the period, when she scored a short-handed goal after she stole the puck from a Star defenceman. The Sabres outshot the Stars 17-5 in the third and in the OT period but couldn’t find a winner.

Jenesica Drinkwater and Kim Paton shared the Sabres net dutie, s as the Sabres outshot the Stars 37-19. Junior Sabres, 3-

Markham, 3 The Sabres came up with a solid effort and were able to score twice in the first and shut down the Stars the rest of the game as they outshot Markham 30-15.

O’Neill scored first with a high shot from the slot after a nice feed from Dallas Boyd with Smith picking up the second assist. Desrochers scored a power-play marker off a nice give and go with O’Neill with Smith picking up the other assist.

After a scoreless second, the Sabres got their third with five minutes to go when Kelli Gruhl scored fafter being set up by Kristen Clendinning with Jenn Crawford picking up the second assist.

Drinkwater picked up the shutout in the Sabres net.
