The Stoney Creek Midget AA Sabres remain undefeated in 2014 Esso Cup action.
The Sabres edged the Sudbury Lady Wolves 2-1 in their third game of the national female midget hockey championship on Tuesday evening at the Gateway Ice Centre.
The Sabres got on the scoreboard first 30 seconds into the second period, when Emily Calligan netted an even-strength goal from Theresa Woodland and Kayla Vespa.
The Lady Wolves answered back at the 8:41 mark of the second on a goal by Karli Shell. Kennedy Lanktree earned the assist.
The Sabres then put the nail in the Wolves’ coffin at the 19:34 mark of the period, when Alexa Vasko netted a short-handed goal that was unassisted.
The win served as sweet revenge for the Sabres, who lost to the Wolves 3-0 in the provincial gold medal game about a week ago.
The Sabres continue their Esso Cup run Wednesday night, when they take on the undefeated Weyburn Gold Wings.
The pick drops at 7 p.m. at Gateway.
