Robbery suspect smashes cruiser window

A Hamilton man who deliberately smashed his head through a police cruiser window faces charges of robbery, mischief, breach of probation and possession of stolen property following his arrest on Wednesday.

At 1:40 p.m., loss prevention officers at Lime Ridge Mall watched a man rushing through the men’s department of The Bay, concealing a stolen jacket in a backpack.

The suspect left the store with the merchandise and a was approached by a loss prevention officer.  The suspect pulled out what the officer believed was a knife.

The suspect continued to flee on foot and eventually boarded a city bus.

Police located the bus at Upper Wentworth Street and Stone Church Road.  The suspect was identified and arrested.  While in the police cruiser, the man deliberately hit his head into the cruiser window, causing it to smash.

The stolen merchandise was recovered.  The man was held for a bail hearing.

Hamilton police continue to investigate.
