Road work reaches Mountain food bank

Neighbour to Neighbour Centre remains open, needs baby formula

 By Mark Newman, News Staff

Officials at Neighbour to Neighbour Centre say the public can still drop off food bank donations while Athens Street is being ripped up.

Centre operations manager Sara Collyer said the public can access the parking lot behind the Athens Street food bank from Mohawk Road via the entrance to Immanuel Christian Reformed Church, just west of Athens Street.

“If they have any issues, they can call us for a pick-up at 905-574-1334,” Collyer said. “We are still open and in need.”

Collyer said they are nearly out of baby formula and also require donations of  canned meat or poultry, canned fruit and vegetables, pasta, canned tomatoes and items for children’s lunches.

About 1,300 households use the food bank each month.

Road and sewer work began on Athens Street this morning (Thursday) and is slated to continue to the end of November.

The work is part of a $5.6 million road and sewer project than includes Athens and Amanda Streets and parts of Mohawk Road and West 5th.
