Ramsden completes Olympic competition

By Craig Campbell, Dundas Star News

Dundas resident Denise Ramsden finished 19th in the Olympic women’s cycling time trial, Wednesday, about four minutes behind the gold medal winner.

In a pre-Olympic interview at Domestique Café, the Downtown Dundas coffee shop where she works part-time, Ramsden said the Olympic individual time trial would be the longest one she’s ever competed in.

“29km of pain in the plan for today,” 21-year-old Ramsden tweeted Wednesday morning before the time trial event.

She finished the course in a time of 41 minutes and 44.81 seconds. Veteran Canadian Olympian Clara Hughes finished fifth in a time of 38 minutes and 28.96 seconds.

Kristin Armstrong of the United States rode the fastest time of the day (37 minutes and 34.82 seconds) to take the gold medal.

A total of 24 cyclists competed in the women’s time trial.
