Police catch up to Stoney Creek food mart truck thief

A 24-year-old Hamilton man has been charged after he stole a parked Ford F150 from Punjab Food Mart on Aug. 14.

Const. Debbie McGreal-Dinning said a woman parked the truck outside the store on Queenston Road and left the keys in the ignition.

A man watched her enter the store, jumped into the vehicle and drove away. Police were called and given a description of the suspect and vehicle.

An officer saw the man driving the truck with another male in the passenger seat in the area of Barton Street and Woodward Avenue.

The suspect was then seen parking the truck in a nearby driveway. Both occupants got out of the vehicle and fled on foot. They were last seen running through backyards in the area.

Police set up a perimeter and the dog unit was called in.

The suspect was then seen on Melvin Avenue.

He was arrested without incident and is charged with theft and possession over $5,000 and two counts of driving while disqualified.

Police did not find the passenger.
