Longtime Ward 3 councillor and Hamilton Police Services Board chair Bernie Morelli has died.
Morelli was first elected as a public school board trustee in 1988. He was elected to Hamilton city council in 1991 and continued to serve as Ward 3 councillor until his death. His service with the Hamilton police board, in multiple stints, spanned nearly a decade.
In a media release, Hamilton police chief Glenn De Caire praised Morelli’s commitment to public service.
“Mr. Morelli served at great length as a member of the Hamilton Police Services Board and as the chair of the board for over nine years. Bernie held a commitment to public safety and maintained the focus of making Hamilton safer for all citizens,” De Caire stated.
