Customers will soon be able to shop the aisles of the new Fortinos at Fiesta Mall.
Fortinos marketing director Beverly Wright says the store will officially open on July 25.
“We are working away inside to get everything ready for the opening date,” she said. “We are still pulling most of the departments together with shelving and equipment.”
Construction of the new $20-million, 70,000-square-foot Fortinos began last November.
The store will replace the current Fortinos at the site.
The existing store, which is 52,000 square feet, opened in 1984.
Wright said the old Fortinos will close its doors on July 19 at 6 p.m.
“We need to move some heavy equipment over to the new store that cannot be done while the old store is operational,” she said. “Once in place, we then need to hook up to electrical/water and test to ensure that all pieces are properly functioning. Once we open the new store, we will start to demolish the old one, but this will take a few months to complete.”
The new Fortinos will feature a Pane Fresco with a bakery, soup station, salad bar, café and carvery that provides fresh and hand-sliced dinners of roast beef, roast turkey or fish to eat at a nearby seating area or take home.
The improved store also will feature a Nature’s Treasure health food department and pharmacy with a consulting room, President’s Choice Financial banking pavilion and PC mobility shop.
Wright said the store will take Stoney Creek shoppers to a “whole new level.”
“It will introduce customers to Pane Fresco, which encompasses the whole idea of ‘eating well made easy’ with the addition of phenomenal foods to go,” she said. “In addition to Pane Fresco, there’s a huge focus on health and wellness and many other new features and products. Franchisee Joe Caruso is very excited to be able to greet customers in his new store.”
The new Fortinos will employ about 300 people, including employees from the current store.
Wright said the old Fortinos property will be used as a parking lot.
