New colours, mascot to be unveiled soon

Nora Francis Henderson’s name should be officially accepted by Hamilton public school board trustees Monday for the new Mountain’s new public high school.
The new colours and a mascot could soon follow.
This fall, Hill Park will be empty and Barton will take on the name of the new high school. There will be no more Barons or Rams. Barton’s blue and green colours and Hill Park’s red and black will be retired.
The new branding can’t tread on what is already in use at other schools. Combinations of black and blue, green and black and red-green are available, or an all-new scheme could be chosen.
One of the most common submissions, perhaps not surprising given it will represent one school rising from two closed ones, is a phoenix.
“Kids are picking things for reasons,” said Barton principal Rick Kunc, who added silver was also a popular colour suggestion.
