Police shut down the Claremont Access shortly before 3pm
The upbound lanes of the Claremont Access are open today, but the downbound lanes could remain closed for some time.
Upbound traffic resumed Wednesday about one hour after debris fell from a failed retaining wall and caused police to shut down traffic going in both directions.
A city spokesman said removal of debris from the roadway and repairs to the retaining wall begins this morning and the Claremont could remain closed through tomorrow.
The Claremont was opened in 1971 and last inspected in November 2010.
