 Youth charged in connection with seven sexual assaults

Police have charged a 14-year-old male fromHamilton in connection with a series of sexual assaults on the central-west Mountain dating back to last October.

The youth is facing seven counts of sexual assault and one assault charge.

Detective sergeant David Hennick from the police victims of crime unit said the youth was arrested around 1 p.m. on Thursday at a school in the area.

He would not elaborate on the circumstances that led police to the suspect.

“It was the citizens in the area who came forward who helped identify him,” Hennick said.

He noted police ACTION team officers went door to door in the area where the attacks took place seeking information

Most of the attacks saw a male approach females from behind and grab or slap their buttocks and then flee on foot.

One victim was grabbed by the thigh.

The attacks occurred in the area of Wembely Street and West 5th, McElroy Road and Warren Avenue, Terrace Drive and South Bend Road East and on Terrace Drive between 8 p.m. and 11 p.m.

The most recent attack occurred on March 17 around 8:50 p.m. on Terrace Drive near South Bend Road East.
