Inspector’s disciplinary trial remains on hold

By Richard Leitner, News Staff

It will be a while yet before a tribunal resumes a hearing on misconduct charges against a Hamilton police inspector accused of engaging in sexual activity on the job and having porn on his work computer.

A conference call scheduled for yesterday morning on the status of Insp. David Doel’s ability to proceed was cancelled without explanation and rescheduled for March 6.

His trial on 14 charges of discreditable conduct, corrupt practice, neglect of duty and insubordination has been on hold since October due to an undisclosed illness.

The Dundas resident, who earns more than $130,000 per year, has been on paid suspension since Oct. 23, 2009.

He was the chief’s quality assurance supervisor and is accused of engaging in sexual activity while on duty and possessing “pornographic and/or inappropriate material” on his work computer.

Other charges include allegations his actions toward a female and male co-worker between September 2008 and September 2009 were “prejudicial to discipline or likely to bring discredit upon the reputation” of Hamilton police.

He also allegedly accessed and used personal information on members of the police service for personal advantage.
