Hamilton showcases city in GTA

 By Kevin Werner, News Staff

Hamilton is spending about $5,000 to entice businesses from the Greater Toronto Area to the municipality.

City staff, said Economic Development General Manager Tim McCabe, is sending out about 45,000 pamphlets to businesses employing from five to 100 employees within the GTA, such as in Etobicoke, Mississauga,Oakville, and Brampton. In addition, another 5,000 booklets, which tout Hamilton’s investment opportunities, including the city’s designation of being voted the number one city to invest in Ontario, will be distributed to GTA real estate offices.

“This is a worth-while effort,” said McCabe.

The marketing package touts the city as the best place to invest in both Ontario, and Canada, according to Site Selection Magazine, and Real Estate Network. It also encourages people to further investigate Hamilton’s economic progress through its www.investinhamilton.ca website.

City staff recently announced Hamilton broke its 2010 $1 billion record in building permits for 2012. From January to September, the city issued $1.175 billion in building permits. City staff is also celebrating the decision in the summer by Navistar to relocate from Burlington to Hamilton.

Stoney Creek councillor Brad Clark called it a “great campaign,” especially when Mississauga mayor Hazel McCallion recognized how effective is could be.
