Fleeing collision suspects caught while stopping for pizza

A 15-year-old Hamilton boy faces several charges after a stolen car fled the scene of an accident on the central Mountain and its occupants decided to stop for a slice of pizza.

Sgt. Terri-Lynn Collings said Hamilton police were called to the corner of Upper Sherman Street and Franklin Road at about 11 a.m. on Sept. 20 to investigate the collision.

After getting a description, police found the suspect car about 15 minutes later in a plaza at the corner of Upper Wentworth Street and Rymal Road, and followed the two occupants as they got out and went into a pizza shop.

Two teens were arrested without incident and police determined the car had been stolen in Peel region overnight. A search discovered a small amount of pot on one of the boys.

Released on a promise to appear, the 15-year-old is charged with failing to remain at the scene of an accident, possession of stolen goods over $5,000 and breach of probation.

His 16-year-old passenger is charged with occupying a stolen vehicle and possession of marijuana.
