Elderly driver becomes city’s first traffic fatality of the year

An 80-year-old man whose car hit a parked vehicle on Upper Wentworth Street earlier this month has become the city’s first traffic fatality of the year.

Hamilton police Sgt. Terri Lynn Collings said the driver died in hospital early this morning from injuries sustained in the Feb. 9 collision.

The man had been driving north on Upper Wentworth at about 8 p.m. when he hit a vehicle in the east curb lane with such force it was pushed into another vehicle parked in a driveway. There were no other injuries.
