Kevin Jaczenko scored two goals Sunday night as Dundas Blues bounced back from Saturday`s loss for a 6-2 win in Chippawa – and a three games to two lead in the Niagara District Junior C hockey playoff series.
Nick McMullen and Matt Johnson each added a goal and two assists. Dundas has two chances – Tuesday at home and Thursday in Chippawa – to clinch the best of seven first round series.
Jaczenko, Johnson and McMullen, Dundas’ top three regular season scorers, were brought back together on the same line.
“Reuniting the line of Jaczenko, McMullen and Johnson for last nights game was the difference in the game. They gave the team the jump we needed,” said Blues general manager Steve Aglor.
Chippawa actually jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period of Sunday night`s game five, in their own arena. With less than two minutes left in the opening frame, Dundas took control and never let up – scoring six straight unanswered goals.
Jaczenko, assisted by Johnson, got Dundas on the board. Johnson, from McMullen, tied the game heading into the second period.
Jaczenko put Dundas ahead, with what turned out to be the winning goal, assisted by Braxton Andrews and McMullen. That was the only scoring in the second period.
In the final period, McMullen scored first, assisted by Johnson. Elijah Williams found the net, assisted by Dan Pelosini. Then Pelosini scored on an empty net, assisted by Branden Graffi and Tyler Jones.
Brock Novak made 26 saves for the win.
Game six is scheduled for Tuesday, February 11 at 7:30 p.m. in Dundas J.L. Grightmire Arena. Dundas could clinch the series and move on to the second round with a win at home Tuesday night.
If necessary, Game seven is scheduled for Thursday, February 13 in Chippawa.
