Dundas golfer Mackenzie Hughes finished his first round on the prestigious web.com tour at even par Thursday morning, in Bogotá, Colombia.
Hughes earned fully exempt status on the tour by winning the PGA Tour Canada last season. The top 25 players in web.com earn status on the PGA Tour at the end of the season.
After a very strong start, Hughes struggled for a three hole stretch before finishing off the round three strokes behind the clubhouse leaders – with dozens of players yet to complete the opening round.
With birdies on the eighth and 10th holes, Hughes was -2 par and among the top 20 golfers on the course after 10 holes. But he bogeyed holes 11, 12 and 13 to drop down the leader board at one over par.
The Highland Secondary School and Kent State University graduate picked up a third birdie on the 17th hole to get back to even par.
Canadian company theScore recently announced they are sponsoring Hughes again this season, after supporting him on the PGA Tour Canada last Spring. They join the golfer’s newest sponsor Freedom 55 Financial.
The Pacific Rubiales Colombia Championship continues Friday.
