Dundas Blues took a 2-1 lead in their best of seven first round Niagara District Junior C hockey league playoff series with a dramatic 5-4 overtime win in Chippawa, Thursday night.
“It was a nail-biter,” said Blues general manager Steve Aglor.
Chippawa got the scoring started in the first period. Then Elijah Williams found the net for Dundas, assisted by Chad Carey and Garret Incze, to knot it at 1-1 after one period.
Incze, assisted by Williams and Alex Aquin, put Dundas up 2-1 mid-way through the second frame. Aquin scored himself less than a minute later, helped by Tyler Jones, to give Dundas a 3-1 edge. Chippawa closed the gap with a power play goal before the end of the frame.
Kevin Jaczenko opened the third period with a goal putting Dundas up 4-2. Assists went to Cam McConnell and Nick McMullen. But Chippawa followed with two goals of their own.
The last half of the third period was scoreless, as the two teams headed into overtime.
Tyler Jones scored the winner, with assists from Jaczenko and Brendan Knott, eight minutes into overtime.
Brock Novak faced 52 shots in net for Dundas, stopping 48 of them for the win.
Game four brings the series back to Dundas on Saturday, Feb. 8. Game time tomorrow night at J.L. Grightmire Arena is 7:30 p.m.
