Dundas Blues advanced to the second round of the Niagara District Junior C hockey playoffs with a convincing 6-3 win over Chippawa Riverhawks, Tuesday night.
The Blues topped Chippawa four games to two in the best of seven series.
Tuesday night, Dundas scored four unanswered first period goals to take control of game six immediately.
The reunited number one line of Kevin Jaczenko, Matt Johnson and Nick McMullen got it started – with Jaczenko scoring the first goal, and Johnson and McMullen both picking up assists.
Hot veteran Alex Aquin scored next, assisted by Garrett Incze and Elijah Williams.
Jaczenko’s second goal of the period, Dundas’ third of the game, came on a power play assisted by Braxton Andrews.
Johnson scored Dundas’ fourth goal of the opening frame, assisted by Williams and Incze.
Chippawa scored the only two goals of the second period.
Dundas kept the pressure on in the final frame, with two goals from Brayden Knott. The first came unassisted three minutes into the final period. The second came in the final minute of play, assisted by Aquin and Williams.
Brock Novak made 28 saves for the series clinching win. Novak played all six games and made 186 saves for a goals against average of 3.27 and a save percentage of .903. He gave up 20 goals in six games.
