Conservation authority issues flood warning

The Hamilton Conservation Authority has issued a flood warning in advance of two incoming weather systems that are poised to bring soggy, spring-like conditions on Thursday and Friday.

The Hamilton area could receive in excess of 40 millimetres of precipitation over the two day period. Due to day-time highs of 5-8 C, it is likely that much of the precipitation will be rain. A slight risk of thunderstorm activity could cause higher localized precipitation to fall.

The forecasted mild temperatures will result in melting of the accumulated snow pack, which may result in rapidly increasing flows and water levels in area watercourses, with potential for localized flooding in low-lying areas.

It is advised that people exercise caution near all water bodies, as fast moving water and slippery banks may pose a significant hazard.

Adults are advised to keep children and pets away from water bodies at this time.
