Reconstruction of Broker Drive will begin in the spring.
The work will be done in two parts, with work between Upper Ottawa and Upper Kenilworth taking place first, says Coun. Tom Jackson (Ward 6, east Mountain).
The second phase of the reconstruction will include the section from Upper Kenilworth east to Mountain Brow Boulevard.
That could be in 2013 — or early 2014 at the latest — and will be done in conjunction with major roadwork on Mountain Brow, said Gary Moore, the city’s director of engineering, in a letter to area residents that was distributed last week.
Along with new sidewalks and replacing the water main and sewer lines, there will be two lay-bys for short-term parking constructed near Huntington Park school and the adjacent recreation centre when the road is rebuilt.
The work was planned for this year, but was delayed and eventually postponed due to potential problems with the water main replacement in cold weather.
“The contractor will be directed to start as soon as practical in the spring given the temperature sensitivity of the work,” Moore wrote.
