Boiago named to CIS all-rookie team

Danielle Boiago has been named one of the top rookie university basketball players in Canada.

Boiago, who had a phenomenal first season as a guard with the McMaster Marauders, was named to the Canadian Interuniversity Sport All-Rookie Team. She was also a runner-up for the Kathy Shields Award for rookie of the year.

The St. Thomas More grad last week was named the Ontario University Athletics West rookie of the year. With the Marauders, she averaged 15.3 points per game to rank eigth in the league, chipped in 2.0 assists per game and also grabbed 4.5 rebounds per game, which is outstanding for a guard.

Boiago’s 2.4 steals per game ranked seventh in the OUA and her 51 total steals were the second highest number in McMaster history. Her 39 made three-point field goals in conference play were also the second highest number for a single season in the Marauder record book.

Also this year, she was named the tournament MVP at the Laval invitational after leading the Marauders to the tournament championship, was twice named McMaste’s Female Athlete of the Week and once was recognized as the OUA Female Athlete of the Week.
