Baseball bat attacks sends east Mountain man to hospital

A 24-year-old Hamilton man was sent to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after being hit with a baseball bat outside his east Mountain home.

Const. Debbie McGreal said a 20-year-old man went to a home by the corner of Upper Gage Street and Rymal Road at about 4:30 a.m. on Jan. 30 and struck the victim with the bat when he came outside.

The victim’s mother intervened when her son fell to the ground and the suspect began kicking him. The two men, who know each other, went inside the house to await police.

The 20-year-old is charged with assault causing bodily harm, assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for dangerous purposes. Police opposed his bail.
