Ancaster’s Brad Martin named to national halfpipe team by Canada Snowboard

Ancaster’s Brad Martin has been named to the halfpipe national team.

Canada Snowboard made the announcement earlier this afternoon. Five of the six athletes on the team are former Olympians, three of whom made their debut in Sochi last winter. Long-standing national team athletes and three-time Olympians Martin and Mercedes Nicoll will lead their teammates to the upcoming 2015 FIS World Championships in Kreischberg, Austria, in January.

Newly appointed coaches are Ben Boyd and Elijah Teter.

“We are very excited to reveal the names of the athletes and coaching staff selected for the 2015 halfpipe team,” said Robert Joncas, high performance director. “We have been working closely with the athletes to find the best solution for the season for their training and competition opportunities and we believe that this will be the best fit for them” stated

The first major event on the FIS calendar for the team is the Copper Mountain World Cup in Copper, Colorado, from Dec. 6-7.

Also named to the team are Alexandra Duckworth, Calynn Iriwn, Katie Tsuyuki and Derek Livingston.
