Ancaster man loses licence, car for week

A 22-year-old Ancaster man had his licence suspended and car impounded for a week after being clocked going more than 50 kilometres over the speed limit on Highway 6 on May 21.

Const. Debbie McGreal-Dinning said Hamilton police were doing traffic enforcement in the area of Highway 5 and Highway 6 at about 6 p.m. when a vehicle entered the radar at 135 km-h. The speed limit is 80.

Police caught up to the driver and stopped the vehicle after it made an aggressive move from the left lane on Highway 6 to the exit ramp onto York Road in Dundas.

Charged under the province’s street racing and stunt driving legislation, the driver faces a fine of $2,000 to $10,000 and penalty of up to six demerit points.
