Doris Sanchez is keeping a mindful eye on the forecast.
The event co-ordinator for Concession Streetfest said upwards of 20,000 people are expected to visit the 18th version of the street party on Saturday given good weather.
“Bring your enthusiasm,” said Sanchez, who noted this year’s business improvement area-sponsored event will feature some 70 arts and craft vendors, 10 patio or outside food vendors, street musicians and other entertainment and activities on from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. “Please leave your pets at home.”
The street will be closed from Upper Wentworth to East 25th during the event.
“Everybody loves Concession Street,” said veteran Hamilton musician SonnyDel Rio who will be the emcee on the BIA stage near Upper Wentworth.
Del Rio and his band The Five Star Revue will also be performing at 5 p.m. to wrap up Streetfest.
The community stage near St.Stephen on the Mount Anglican Church will feature a variety of dancers and other performers and there will be a children’s play area in the Royal Bank Parking lot.
Three dozen or so businesses are expected to run sidewalk sales and other special promotions during Streetfest.
“For a lot of small businesses on the street the drive by traffic is great, but what is really of benefit to them is when people get out of their cars and you get a completely different perspective when you’re walking down the street,” said Carlo Gorni, executive director of the Concession Street BIA.
Gorni said the public will also want to come out and see the new street banners and the new plants that were recently added to 39 freshly painted planters along the BIA.
