The Federazione Abruzzese is providing local youth of Abruzzese origin the opportunity to win one of four post-secondary scholarships.
Scholarship recipients must be of Abruzzese origin, through either a parent or grandparent, but not necessarily a member of the Federazione Abruzzese of Hamilton and District.
The parent(s) of the scholarship applicant must have their principal residence within the local district, which includes Hamilton, Halton, Niagara and Brantford.
The application deadline is June 20.
Scholarships will be awarded to full-time undergraduate students attending a fully accredited college or university.
Applicants will have completed their first year as a minimum requirement.
Students in postgraduate studies such as Masters and Doctorate programs are not eligible.
Only university or college transcripts will be accepted for the purpose of marks. Students can not win the award more than once.
Eligible students will be required to write an essay explaining how their Italian heritage has influenced their life and how it has contributed to their Canadian way of life.
The essay should be typed, double-spaced and should not exceed 250 words.
Entrants should also submit a resume or summary outlining community involvement, such as volunteer and extra curricular activities, along with a copy of a school transcript.
Scholarship recipients will be notified at least 30 days before the presentation date, which occurs at the annual Festitalia Abruzzese dinner, Wednesday Sept. 17 at Carmen’s Banquet Centre.
