Chorus salutes the Oscars

Ancaster News

Theatre Ancaster’s new adult chorus has a song and musical memory treat that hits the great songs of Hollywood in their Salute to The Oscars, May 23 and 24 at 8 p.m. and May 25 at 2 p.m. at the Old Firehall Arts Centre.

“We’ve just started ticket sales, but they’re going quickly,” said Theatre Ancaster’s Gord Conroy, “We had sell-out shows in December, so we’ve added a Sunday matinee this time.

Songs are handled mostly in four-part harmonies by the 30-member chorus led by Tammy Johnson with accompaniment by Monica Admiral and guest musicians. The concert covers eight decades from 1930 hits such as Jeepers Creepers, Over the Rainbow and They Can’t Take That Away From Me through Unchained Melody and Moon River in the ’50s and ‘60’s to Papa Can You Hear Me and Let the River Run from the ’80s to the modern Jai Ho and Skyfall.

“As well, we have chosen a medley of songs from Les Mis,” said Conroy. “It’s such incredible music. We just had to do it.”

The box office is now open for phone orders.  Adults $20, seniors $18, students and children $10. Further details can be found at TheatreAncaster.com or call  905-304-TUNE(8863).
