Hamilton’s annual compost giveaway begins Saturday.
The public works department is opening its yards at locations across the city for residents who bring their own bucket or container and a shovel.
The compost is the end result of curbside yard waste collection. After it’s picked up, it is processed and turned it into nutrient-rich compost.
All compost giveaways run from 8 a.m. until noon, while quantities last.
Saturday, it’s happening in the yards at 501 Shaver Rd., Ancaster, and 161 Studholme Rd., Hamilton.
On May 3, it’s the Mountain yard at 308 Rymal Rd. East and the 330 Wentworth St. North location.
On May 10, residents can go to 1301 Upper Ottawa St. or 349 Jones Rd. in Stoney Creek.
* The Upper Ottawa location also has compost available from April 28 to May 9 (Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.) while quantities last.
Residents are encouraged to bring a monetary donation to all Saturday events in support of the United Way of Burlington and Greater Hamilton.
Please note that free compost is not for commercial use.
