Sabres skate to second straight victory at Esso Cup

The Stoney Creek Midget AA Sabres are 2-0 in 2014 Esso Cup action.

The Sabres shut out the Fraser Valley Phantom 3-0 in their second game of the national female midget hockey championship on Monday evening at the Gateway Ice Centre.

Amanda Butterfield netted the team’s first goal on the powerplay at the 7:32 mark of the first period from Jessica Brown.

Natasha Costello scored the Sabres’ second goal on the powerplay at the 5:14 mark of the second. Stephanie Ayres and Sarah Jerome earned the assists.

Victoria Klimek then sealed the win on an even-strength goal at the 15:45 mark of the third period with Alexa Vasko picking up the assist.

The Sabres crushed the Moncton Rockets 8-1 in their opening game on Sunday.

The team will be looking for revenge tomorrow (Tuesday), when it faces off against the Sudbury Lady Wolves

The Lady Wolves beat the Sabres 3-0 about a week ago in the provincial gold medal game, forcing the Sabres to settle for silver.

The puck drops at 7 p.m. at Gateway.
