Dundas Little Theatre’s upcoming production of August: Osage County has been a challenge. With a cast of 13, a multi-storey set and blunt language, director Liz Inman said Osage isn’t a play many theatres would undertake.

“It’s been a challenge but a good challenge is always fun.”

The Pulitzer Prize winning play, written by Tracy Letts, is about a dysfunctional midwestern family who reunite to support their mother during a moment of crisis.

“There are a lot of conflicts and discoveries within the family history, but there is a lot of humour in it too,” said Inman. “As soon as I read it, I immediately fell in love.”

Inman said the cast is full of talent, dedication and experience, and watching them will be a great pleasure for the audience.

“I have a superb cast,” she said. “They recognize it is a bit above the run-of-the-mill small comedy and they came out with eager anticipation.”

Inman said the play’s characters are down to earth, vocal and quick with their language.

“Once the audience accepts the strong language, they will get caught up in the problems and dilemmas in the family and the deep affection for each other’s problems and concerns.”

Inman brings years of experience as an actor, drama teacher and director to the production. She’s been directing since 1970 and has been with Dundas Little Theatre since their new theatre was officially opened in 1980.

“I’m very excited to have the opportunity to work on this play.”

Performances take place at the Garstin Centre for the Arts, 37 Market St., in Dundas, April 25-26, May 1-3 and May 9-10 at 8 p.m. A matinee performance will be held on May 4 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $18, or $13 for students and seniors on Thursdays and Sundays.
