Second annual ICAA gala to benefit artistic immigrants

 By Mark Newman, News Staff

It’s an opportunity for the public to see the artistic diversity of Hamilton and for artists from around the world to hook up with potential supporters in the community.

The second annual Immigrant Cultural and Art Association fundraising gala will be held March 27 at Carmen’s Banquet Centre.

“This is going to be an extraordinary night for Hamilton,” said Nithy Ananth, vice president and treasurer of the ICAA, which promotes immigrant artists from around the Greater Hamilton Area.

Those artists include painters, writers, dancers and musicians.

“Most of the immigrants (have) some artistic skills,” Ananth said. “We give them opportunities…where they can exhibit their skills.”

Those opportunities include exhibits and performance venues the ICAA organizes several times a year.

Along with dinner and a chance to meet a wide variety of artists, the evening includes performances by a Russian ballet dance group, the United Filipino Canadian Seniors Association of Hamilton Dance Group and the South Indian Classical Dance Group.

Tickets are $50.

See: www.immigrantart.org for more information.

Ananth said the ICAA has been around for about 11 years and the organization has an office at the Workers Arts and Heritage Centre on Stuart Street.
