Annual maintenance moved up from September

It will be nothing like the two-month shut down Hamilton seniors had to endure last August and September.
The Sackville Hill Seniors Recreation Centre at Upper Wentworth and Mohawk will close for annual maintenance between March 31 and April 6.
“There will be no disruption of registered programs,” said Cathy Kohler, recreation supervisor at Sackville. “It’s a convenient time to do it.”
In the past, annual maintenance has been done at the busy centre in September, but Kohler noted they wanted to move that up this year so it occurs after the winter programs end and before spring programs begin.
The annual maintenance is essentially extensive cleaning of the building and waxing of the gymnasium floor that cannot be done while the centre is being used.
Kohler said the centre will re-open April 7 after the annual maintenance.
Late last summer the 20-year-old centre was closed for two months to make way for $1.7 million worth of renovations including a new roof.
Kohler said Sackville has about 2,400 members and as many as 500 seniors visit the centre each day.
