The first candidate to register in the race to fill the Ward 6 public school trustee seat being vacated byLaura Peddleis vowing to make transparency a key priority if elected.
Allan Miles said he’s still developing his platform for the Oct. 25 vote, but his dealings with trustees when his kids were in school left an impression they didn’t give his input much weight.
“Over the years I haven’t been satisfied with what I’ve seen,” said the youth worker.
“One of the main reasons I’m running is that I want to be transparent with the parents and voters. I would actually care what they think and represent them and respect their views.”
Miles, who lives in upper Stoney Creek, is making his first bid for elected office.
He said he chose Ward 6 because “that’s where I grew up and that’s where my heart is,” and he also helped coach the water polo team at Barton Secondary School for several years.
Peddle, who is completing a second consecutive term in office, has repeatedly said she won’t run again.
She was first elected in 2000 but lost the 2003 vote to Kathy Archer before prevailing in rematches in 2006 and 2010.
