Tale of conjoined, singing twins told in Hammer’s Side Show

Hamilton Mountain News

Hammer Entertainment’s latest production is a bit of a departure from recent offerings.

Side Show, a musical based on the lives of conjoined twins Daisy and Violet Hilton, who lived and toured the side show and vaudeville circuit in the early 20th century.

How many musicals have we watched two people sing great harmonies throughout? Now think about those two people being attached and then add different love interests for each of the twins.

Mountain residents Sean Trainor, Alyssa Nedich, Ian McKechnie and Nikki Horvath all have roles in Side Show. Trainor is returning after more than a decade, while it is McKechnie’s first time on the Hammer stage. Nedich is handling choreography while Horvath returns after being in past Hammer productions like 9 to 5 and Hairspray.

Side Show “has something for everyone who enjoys music or theatre,” says Hammer artistic director Jason Dick.

“Great real characters mixed in with some fun side show ‘freaks’ to keep everyone entertained, this show will keep the music lovers tapping their feet, the theatre lovers talking long after they leave the theatre and the music theatre lovers singing the tunes for weeks.”

Side Show runs Jan. 30-Feb. 1 and Feb. 6-8 at the The Citadel Theatre, 28 Rebecca St. Tickets are available by calling the box office at 905-981-7345.
