First battle for first place Friday night in Brantford
The Brantford Blast face something completely new to the team this season.
Friday night’s matchup against the Dundas Real McCoy’s is the first time all season another team is able to move into first place. The Blast came out of the gates hard, winning their first eight games and haven’t had to look back...until now.
Dundas is riding an 11-game winning streak and there only one point between the two Allan Cup Hockey heavyweights.
Between the two teams, there are a combined fiveplayers sitting in the top 10 in scoring in the league. The Blast have Joel Prpic in sixth with 23 points and Mike Ruberto in a tie for 10th with 19 points. Dundas has Scott Mifsud (second with 27 points), Cam Watson (seventh with 22 points) and Joe Koudys (ninth with 21 points).
The two goaltenders are the top two in the goalie leaders. Brett Leggat of the Blast has a GAA of 2.03 and a save percentage of .941 for first place, while Dundas goaltender Mike Mole sits in second with a GAA of 2.74 and a save percentage of .918.
The Brantford Blast and Dundas Real McCoys have faced off four times this season. The Blast won 3-0 and 3-1 at the start of the season, followed by two Dundas wins 4-3 and 10-2.
The battle of the heavyweights gets underway Jan. 17 at 7:30 p.m. at Brantford District Civic Centre, 69 Market St. S., Brantford.
