Tyke Blues’ rivalry with Hespeler Shamrocks continues

Dundas Star News

This week’s Dundas Nine-0 Tyke Blues hockey action was filled with revenge.

On Wednesday the luck of the Hespeler Shamrocks ran out as the Blues erased a 2-0 lead in the third period.

With just two minutes to play, the Blues started their comeback with a Kael Andrew backhander assisted by Martin VandenHeuvel and Owen Cox. Christopher Cheeseman then scored to tie the game.

The Blues completed the comeback with five seconds remaining when VandenHeuvel, chipped the puck to an open Andrew, who fired it past the Hespeler goalie.

On Saturday the Blues fate would be different, as their victory two nights previous seemed to fuel the Shamrocks. Helpeler controlled much of the game and secured a 5-3 victory.  Goal scorers were Declan Forth and VandenHeuvel, with helpers going to Kai Sulentic and Andrew.

On Sunday, the Blues returned to their dominating form, securing a 7-0 victory over Halton Hills.

The VandenHeuvel connection led the scoring effort, with both Martin and his brother Logan finding the net.  Additional goal scorers included Andrew, Forth and Owen Cox, who found the back of the net for the first time in his career.  Assists went to both VandenHeuvels, Forth, Sean Tutt and Cheeseman.

Defensive standouts were Zachary Klapman, Coy Gordon, Sean Tutt and Matthew Taylor.  Goaltenders Alex Gazzola and Adam Edwards played well.
