There’s nothing like a little hilarity to bring some heat into a frigid winter, and that’s exactly what Dundas Little Theatre has on the playbill beginning Jan. 17.

The 39 Steps is the side-splitting, loving parody of the Alfred Hitchcock classic of the same name.

“This is a show for anyone with a sense of fun and love of the absurd,” said the play’s director George Thomas.

In The 39 Steps, a man with a boring life meets a woman with a thick accent who says she’s a spy and running from secret agents. The woman is subsequently murdered and a mysterious organization called "The 39 Steps" is soon hot on the man's trail in a nationwide manhunt.

Director Thomas brings a wealth of comedic experience to the production. He has held the directorial reins for numerous recent plays staged by both Dundas Little Theatre and Waterdown Village Theatre.

“I love a challenge, and this play challenges the boundaries of what can be done on a stage without the pyrotechnics,” said Thomas. “It embraces what I enjoy most in theatre — invention and minimalism. It's also very funny.”

The talented cast of The 39 Steps includes Bruce Edwards, Graham Clements, Andrew Finnigan, Julian Ford and Amy Giofu.

Thomas said he is most impressed with how his gifted team of techies and actors combine to provide a fast and furious show that is guaranteed to inject  a shot of warmth into winter.

Performances of The 39 Steps take place at the Garstin Centre for the Arts, 37 Market St. in Dundas, Jan. 17-18, Jan. 23-25, Jan. 30-31 and  Feb. 1 at 8 p.m. A matinee performance runs Jan. 26 at 2 p.m.

Thomas hopes his audience will enjoy the co-participation aspect of the show and leave with a  renewed belief in the possibilities of theatre and a sense of fun.

Tickets are $18, with $13 students/seniors 65-plus discounts for Thursday and Sunday performances only.  For ticket information or to make a reservation, call 905-627-5266 or visit .
