Freshman phenom guard Danielle Boiago exploded with 30 points to lead the McMaster Marauders over the Brock Badgers to earn a spot in the provincial university women’s basketball final.
The St. Thomas More product was the top scorer in the 73-67 win in Ontario University Athletics west division semi-final action on Saturday. Along with Boiago’s 30, McMaster got 16 points from Hailey Milligan, 11 from Vanessa Bonomo and 10 from Liz Burns.
Boiago also had 17 points in the Marauders’ 81-51 quarter-final win over Guelph. In the two playoff games, she shot 58.6 per cent from the floor and made 58 per cent of her three-point attempts. Boiago’s performance led to her being recognized as McMaster’s and the OUA’s female athlete of the week.
The Marauders hit the road to face Windsor in the west division final on Saturday. The winner will face the winner of the east final between the Ottawa Gee-Gees and Carleton Ravens.
