Chelsey Mori is preparing to represent Hamilton at the Miss World Canada pageant.
The Sherwood Secondary School graduate is one of the 40 delegates for this year’s pageant, which takes place May 8 and 9 in Vancouver.
The pageant world is nothing new to Mori. At age 12, she was first runner-up in Miss Pre-Teen Canada pageant.
She currently models for an agency in Toronto and is studying criminology at the University of Western Ontario. She’s on the social science student council and a model manager for the Purple Spur fashion show, a fundraiser for Canadian Foundation for AIDS Research (CANFAR), a charity dedicated to eliminating AIDS. Mori is also an ambassador for CANFAR’s youth campaign, Kisses 4 CANFAR, which educates young people about the prevention of AIDS and raise awareness in educational institutions across the country.
“It’s really important to me to empower youth to take care of their own sexuality, especially young girls pressured into sex at such a young age these days,” says Mori.
“Making sure they’re taking precautions about their sexual health is very important to me.”
Mori is looking for sponsors to help her with expenses she’ll be incurring. She can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org.
