McMaster Univeristy’s Meagan Nederveen is this year’s Ontario University Athletics Award of Merit winner.
The award recognizes academics, athletics and community service. Nederveen, a Dundas resident, was named Libero of the Year in 2011-12 and had another outstanding season in her final year of eligibility.
The team captain started every match for the Marauders, posting 261 digs, ranking her fourth in the league in back court performance.
In addition to her leadership on the court, Nederveen is an A-student in McMaster’s kinesiology program.
In the community, Nederveen volunteers with a number of organizations. She is a house league co-ordinator for VolleyTotz, a developmental program that uses a variety of motor skills to engage young children in physical play and volleyball.
Nederveen also donates her time to McMaster Athletes Care initiatives and serves as the women’s volleyball team representative for the group. In the spring of 2012, Nederveen traveled to the Dominican Republic through the D.R.E.A.M.S. program to donate her time and abilities towards building a home for an underprivileged family.
