re: Mountain Kidz Klub
Around the time my son started school, I found myself looking at local groups working to enrich our communities. That was how I found Mountain Kidz Klub.
Located in the Eastmount Community Centre, Mountain Kidz has been around for more than a decade. Kathy Archer, director and founder, speaks often of her desire to see our community come together to help each other and she certainly leads by example. Mountain Kidz provides a number of services year-round and during the holiday season it really picks up the pace.
In December, Mountain Kidz provides food hampers to our community members. They provide two weeks food for a family and a new unopened gift for children. Gift cards for perishable items from local grocery stores are included whenever possible. These hampers are filled from donations and fundraisers, though often topped off by Kathy out of her own pocket.
Volunteers also host a Christmas party, including a visit from Santa, and no child goes home empty handed.
A Christmas dinner is also on the calendar and decorated trees are going to Juravinski for the patients.
I am very thankful for what Mountain Kidz brings to our community. A big thanks to Kathy and all her volunteers.
