With the assistance of fire halls 14, 15, 16, and 17, the Winona Scouts, Orchard Park Secondary School Robotics Team 2056 and more than 40 volunteer firefighters with their families, it was possible to collect more than seven tonnes of non-perishable food items.
Volunteers went door-to- door asking people in the community to give back to their fellow citizens.
We could never be this successful without people willing to share and to help the rest of the community members in need.
"I have been helping the firefighters with the food drive for the last four years, said volunteer Kailey Bastarache. "It is a terrific experience because we get to hang out with firefighters and have a good time while helping out the community.
My favourite part of volunteering alongside the firefighters is that not only are we having fun, but we are also supporting and giving back to the community where I grew up."
