Police link sex assaults

Hamilton Mountain News

Hamilton police say they believe the suspect in a recent sexual assault near Inch Park is also responsible for an attack on a teenaged girl on the central Mountain this week.

Sgt Terri-Lynn Collings said the victims of crime unit, which had already released a composite image of the suspect following the earlier attack, is taking over the investigation into the latest assault.

The teen was walking on Crockett Street near Upper Wentworth Street at about 8:30 p.m. on Nov. 14 when she was grabbed her from behind by a male wearing a black balaclava and black clothing.

The girl fought back and managed to break free, and her attacker ran to an alley on the north side of Crockett near East 21st Street, where he got into a car and drove off toward Concession Street.

The victim, who didn’t suffer serious injuries, rushed to her home and called police.

Collings said police believe the suspect is the same man who sexually assaulted a woman in her late twenties female near Inch Park on Oct. 1.

The woman was jogging by the park with her dog between 8 and 8:30 p.m. on that day when her assailant walked out of the park ahead of her and laughed as she passed him on the sidewalk.

She continued on her way but the man followed her, suddenly running up and sexually assaulting her as he knocked her to the ground.

The woman began kicking and screaming and her attacker ran off west through the park.

The suspect is described as being about 30 years old with a medium build, pale skin and short blond hair that was spiked on top and short on the sides. He stood about five feet nine inches tall and wore baggy jeans and a plain black T-shirt.

The suspect in the Crockett Street assault was also described as having a medium build and similar height.

Police ask anyone with information to call Det. Jason Howard at 905-540-5544 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
