The Sir Allan MacNab Lions are relishing their underdog role as they prepare to face the Westdale Warriors for the Hamilton public high school Division 1 football championship.

“It’ll be a great opportunity for our young team since we weren’t expected to do well this season,” said Lions’ head coach Paul Brown. “I’m confident in my team.”

Westdale finished first in the division at 7-0 while MacNab and two other squads finished at 5 and 2.

The Warriors edged the Lions 18-14 in their regular season clash on Oct 25.

In semi-final action Wednesday, Isaiah Guzylak-Messam caught two touchdown passes from quarterback David Robins and returned an interception for a major to lead the Lions to a 28-21 win over Westmount.

Josh Aspin ran in the other MacNab major and Mercedes Edwards kicked four converts.

Westdale blanked Waterdown 22-0 in the other Division 1 semi-final.

Division 2 semi-final action saw Saltfleet beat Glendale 20-15 and Ancaster edged Highland 7-5.

Meanwhile, the 5-1 Ancaster Royals take on the 4-2 Saltfleet Storm in the Division 2 final.

Ancaster won the regular season game 22-19 on Oct. 11.

Both finals will be played at Ron Joyce Stadium at McMaster University on Nov. 14.

The Division 2 final is at noon and the Division 1 championship is slated for 2:30 p.m.
