The Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice presented Christmas in July for participants of its weekly day hospice program.
A five-course meal, including turkey and all the trimmings, along with a visit from Santa and some carolling were all part of the day.
The fact that it was held on 25th day of the month was pure coincidence as it fell on the day program’s normal day, said hospice volunteer Jane Redmond.
The day hospice program runs every Wednesday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. and is open to anyone with a life-limiting illness.
“We generally meet for coffee and conversation for a bit before people generally go off to reiki, reflexology, watercolour painting and various other activities,” says Trudy Cowan, co-ordinator of the day hospice program.
Participants then have lunch — a full course, professionally prepared meal — served in the boon hour followed by entertainment. The program also gives caregivers some respite.
To sign up for the day hospice program, contact Cowan at 905-387-2448 ext. 2209.
There is also a need for volunteer drivers and entertainers, notes Cowan.
