Cam Watson’s three goals gave the Dundas Real McCoys their first win of the season over the Norwood J.J. Stewart Motors Vipers in Allan Cup Hockey League action.
Friday night, Oct. 21, the Real McCoys travel to the Telephone City to play the Blast in the Brantford Community Centre at 8 p.m.
Dundas' regular season home opener is Faceoff for the United Way Night, Friday, Oct. 28 at J.L. Grightmire Arena. Tickets for the special game may be purchased at Dundas Community Services, 2 King St. W., Unit 3A.
On Saturday, Nov. 5 the McCoys play the Vipers, their opponents in last spring's Major Hockey League final, at 3:30 p.m. The same night the team hosts the Real McCoy Pasta Dinner Night in the Copetown Lions Club Hall, 1950 Highway 99 at 6 p.m. Tickets for the event, which will feature a live band and entertainment, are $20 per person.
In the McCoys/Norwood game, the Vipers blew two, two-goal leads. Dan Pitre scored Dundas' game-winning goal with seven minutes to go on a pass from Joel Steeves.
The Vipers had several opportunities to equalize the score, but failed to capitalize. Scott Stafford and Brad Jackson had the other Dundas goals. The game was tied 2-2 after one period with Norwood taking a 4-3 lead after 40 minutes.
"After falling behind early by two goals, and once again with no warm up after a long bus trip because of heavy traffic through Toronto, we were able to settle in and put pressure on their defence creating some fine scoring chances," said associate coach Ron Bernacci. "In the second period, we gave up two power-play goals with one coming on a 5-3 man-power advantage by Norwood."
Jeff Maund was outstanding in goal, making a critical save on a breakaway situation mid-way through the third period.
"Our young guys worked hard with leadership of veterans Watson, Pitre, T.J Sakaluk, and Dave Russell to carry us to victory," said Bernacci.
Season tickets for the McCoys home games can be purchased at Com-Choice Realty, 179 King St. W., Dundas.
