Hear the stories of Dundas’ industrial and natural past at a free workshop on the history of the Desjardins area and the Urquhart Butterfly Garden tonight.
Stan Nowak and Joanna Chapman will present the workshop. Nowak is president of the Dundas Valley Historical Society, and Chapman is the founder of the Urquhart Butterfly Garden. The presentation takes place Thursday, Sept. 5 at 6 p.m.
Centennial Park sits on the site of the old port of Dundas, where the Desjardins Canal was once a busy shipping route key to Dundas’ economy. Nowak will point out stories of the community’s industrial past that live on in the landscape, drawing on his knowledge of local history to tell the story of the canal.
Chapman will reveal the strange story behind Dundas’ butterfly garden and why this particular location was chosen.
This historical presentation is part of an ongoing series of events at Urquhart Butterfly Garden in the Summer Education Series, provided through funding by the Dougher Fund of Hamilton Community Foundation.
