Volunteer garden group meeting Tuesday

A volunteer information meeting is being held Tuesday by Hamilton Victory Gardens.
The charitable group that grows produce for food banks across the city will outline its 2014 plans at 7 p.m. at Harmony Baptist Church, 1763 Upper James St.
Hamilton Victory Gardens plans to begin preparing several of its sites for planting in mid-April.
The group is in need of more garden tools, says founder Bill Wilcox, especially another lawn mower, wheelbarrows, hard rakes and pitchforks (manure forks). It is also hoping for donations of rhubarb plants, raspberry canes and berry bushes.
In 2013, the total harvest from seven garden sites was over 30,000 pounds of fresh produce, all of which was donated to local food banks and charities. Two new garden sites — one in the east end and one on the Mountain — are planned for this year and the 2014 goal is 45,000 pounds.
